FAQ
Why don't my times match my mosque?
Timetables differ in method, Asr rule and small margins. In Settings, choose the method your mosque uses and Standard or Hanafi Asr. If a time is still off by a minute or two, use Fine tuning to shift just that prayer.
Why didn't an alert make a sound?
Alerts play their sound unless the phone is on silent; no prayer app can get past the silent switch. Time-sensitive alerts do get through Focus. Check that notifications are allowed for Ufuq in the iPhone's Settings, and that the prayer is switched on in Ufuq's own Settings.
Do I need to open the app?
iOS keeps a limited number of scheduled alerts, so Ufuq queues about two weeks ahead and tops them up whenever you open it and in the background. Opening it now and then keeps the queue full.
How do I use my own takbir or adhan?
In Settings, choose Choose a sound… and pick a recording from Files. Ufuq keeps its opening seconds, up to 30, and you can change how much to play. The recording stays on your iPhone. Use the default sound switches back.
Does the watch need my iPhone?
No. The watch works out the times on its own from its location. Your settings, such as the method and fine tuning, come from your iPhone.
The qibla is off. What can I do?
Hold the phone flat and away from metal and magnets. If Ufuq says the compass needs calibrating, move the phone in a figure eight. The bearing shown under the ring is always right; only the compass reading can drift.
What can I ask Siri?
“When is the next prayer?” and “When is Maghrib prayer?”, or any of the five. Siri answers from your last location without opening the app.
Why are there no times today?
Inside the polar circles there are days when the sun neither rises nor sets. There is then nothing astronomical to anchor the times to, so Ufuq says so rather than guessing. Those days need a scholarly ruling.
